Biography

British-Russian mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina was a member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme (2017–19) and has since returned to the Royal Ballet and Opera for the title role in Carmen and Dalila (Samson et Dalila). Recent engagements include Carmen for the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro Real, Madrid and Bayerische Staatsoper and Dalila for Staatsoper Berlin. Other highlights include Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) for the Salzburg Festival, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, Glyndebourne Festival, Arena di Verona, Vienna State Opera and Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, Elisabetta (Maria Stuarda) for Teatro di San Carlo, Naples and Teatro Real, Madrid, Charlotte (Werther) for Deutsche Oper Berlin, Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for the Metropolitan Opera, Adalgisa (Norma) for Theater an der Wien and Fenena (Nabucco) for Arena di Verona. Engagements for 2026/27 include Angelina (La Cenerentola) for Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, Dalila for the Metropolitan Opera, Charlotte for Paris Opera and Bayerische Staatsoper, Adalgisa for Teatro Real, Madrid, Lyubasha (The Tsar's Bride) for Staatsoper Berlin, Carmen for Bayerische Staatsoper and, in concert, her role debut as Giovanna Seymour (Anna Bolena) at Tiroler Festspiele Erl and Verdi’s Messa da Requiem for Liceu, Barcelona.
