Russian mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina was a member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme from 2017–19, when she made her principal role debut as Carmen in Barrie Kosky’s production. Recent engagements include Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) for the Salzburg Festival, the title role of Carmen for the Metropolitan Opera, RBO, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, Glyndebourne Festival and Arena di Verona, Vienna State Opera, Carmen and Elisabetta (Maria Stuarda) for Teatro di San Carlo, Naples and Teatro Real, Madrid, Charlotte (Werther) for Deutsche Oper Berlin, Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for the Metropolitan Opera, Adalgisa (Norma) for Theater an der Wien, and Fenena (Nabucco) for Arena di Verona. Her 2025/26 engagements include her return to the Metropolitan Opera, and Teatro Real, Madrid, Bayerische Staatsoper with Carmen, Isabella (L'italiana in Algeri) for Deutsche Oper Berlin, Dalila (Samson et Dalila) for the Royal Ballet and Opera and Staatsoper Berlin and concerts with Oslo Philharmonic, The Norwegian Opera, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Tonkunstler Orchestra, Prague Philharmonia, San Carlo di Napoli and Hungarian State Opera.
