Biography

Born in Verona, Andrea Battistoni was named Principal Guest Conductor of the Tokyo Philharmonic in 2015 and became Chief Conductor in October 2016. He has since conducted Nabucco, Rigoletto, Madama Butterfly and Aida, as well as numerous symphonic works including Respighi’s Roman Trilogy, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. Other noteworthy engagements include appearances at La Scala, Milan, Teatro Regio, Turin, Teatro Carlo Felice, La Fenice, Venice, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Stockholm Opera House, Arena di Verona, Bayerische Staatsoper and orchestras including the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Filarmonica della Scala, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. Future engagements include appearances at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Arena di Verona, Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro Regio, Turin, Dutch National Opera, Semperoper Dresden and Opera Australia.
