American mezzo-soprano Tichina Vaughn earned her BA in Vocal Performance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and began her operatic career as a member of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Program. Her 2023/24 Season engagements include Azucena (Il trovatore) for Piedmont Opera and the Old Lady (Candide) for Semperoper Dresden. Recent engagements include Maria (Porgy and Bess) with NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, Old Lady for Opéra de Lyon, Amneris (Aida) for Fort Worth Opera and Cincinnati Opera, Monisha (Treemonisha) for Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Porgy and Bess, Boris Godunov and Elektra for the Metropolitan Opera and Emelda (Champion) for Boston Lyric Opera. Vaughn serves as Associate Professor of Music in voice at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Awards include the 2021 Grammy Award for Porgy and Bess (Metropolitan Opera).
