Background

Soprano Alexandra Lowe stars in Poulenc’s quirky portrait of addiction and loss. This topical interpretation is a love letter to the Royal Opera House which allows a peek into its abandoned spaces as we see an artist who misses the stage.  The disoriented diva becomes unable to square truth and fiction.

The Jette Parker Young Artists Programme’s LockDown/SkillUp initiative enabled 30 emerging stage directors to get to grips with opera under the leadership of director Katie Mitchell. Three of these directors have joined forces with Jette Parker Young Artists to create a series of musical journeys captured on location at the Royal Opera House.

Travel with three female protagonists across three centuries of music from Haydn, through Poulenc to Jake Heggie in these dramas written specifically for solo voice and piano and now brought to life by the next generation of opera makers.
