Romanian dancer Alecsia Maria Lazarescu joins The Royal Ballet’s Aud Jebsen Young Dancers programme at the beginning of the 2026/27 season. 

Born in Bucharest, Alecsia began her ballet training at age 8, before moving to Switzerland to study at Balletschule Theatre Basel from age 12 to 15. She joined The Royal Ballet School’s Upper School in September 2023 after winning a prize at the Prix de Lausanne in February 2023.  

During her time at The Royal Ballet School, Alecsia performed in Frederick Ashton’s La Valse in 2024, and the Song Bird Fairy in Anthony Dowell’s The Sleeping Beauty and Frederick Ashton’s Les Patineurs in 2025. She was also one of four students who travelled to Tokyo to perform Frederick Ashton’s Rhapsody pas de deux at the Youth Grand Prix Gala in Japan in 2025. 

In her 2026 graduate Summer Performances, Alecsia danced the leading couple in Christopher Wheeldon’s Christening Suite and David Bintley’s Beauchamps Garden, as well as the Romeo and Juliet Balcony pas de deux and Odile in Peter Wright’s Swan Lake Act III. 

As a student, she also performed in The Royal Ballet’s corps de ballet in their productions of The Nutcracker, Giselle, Like Water for Chocolate, and Mayerling.
