Andrew Macnair

Born in Gloucester, he completed a doctorate in nuclear physics at the University of Kent before studying on ENO Baylis’ ‘The Knack’. He is now a member of the Royal Opera Chorus and has also formed his own ensemble, Covent Garden Voices, who have performed around the country and in Europe. His solo roles for The Royal Opera have included Parpignol, Giuseppe (La traviata), First Man in Armour (Die Zauberflöte), Don Curzio (Le nozze di Figaro), Drunken Guest (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk), Notary (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Echo (The Tsarina’s Slippers). He has also performed Fenton (Falstaff) for New Sussex Opera, Bob Boles (Peter Grimes) for Surrey Opera, Don Basilio and Don Curzio (Le nozze di Figaro) for London Opera Players and Ralph Rackstraw (H.M.S. Pinafore) for Opera Options. He appears regularly in concert in the main oratorio repertoire and has covered many roles for The Royal Opera.
