Baritone

Biography

A native of Poland, Filończyk studied at the Academy of Music in Wrocław under Bogdan Makal. He was a member of the International Opera Studio in Zurich and participated in the 2016 Salzburg Festival Young Singers Project. His recent opera appearances include Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Marcello in La bohème (The Royal Opera), Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor and Frank/Fritz in Die tote Stadt (Bayerische Staatsoper), Posa in Don Carlo and Figaro (Opera Bastille, Paris) and the title role in Don Giovanni and Figaro (Vienna State Opera). Awards include First Prize at the Ninth International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition. Engagements for 2025/26 include Marcello for Bayerische Staatsoper, Ford in Falstaff for Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, and creating the role of Joe Kavalier in the world premiere of Mason Bates’ The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay (house debut) and  Sharpless in Madama Butterfly for the Metropolitan Opera.
