American soprano Angel Blue made her Royal Opera debut in the 2018/19 Season as Violetta Valéry (La traviata) and has since returned in the title role of Aida. A two-time Grammy Award winner, 2020 Beverly Sills Award recipient and 2022 Richard Tucker Award winner, Blue holds a Master's in Opera Performance from the University of California, Los Angeles. She won the Zarzuela Prize and Second Prize in Operalia (2009) and was a member of the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia (2009–11). She has sung worldwide including at the Metropolitan Opera, Paris Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Los Angeles Opera, San Francisco Opera, Vienna State Opera, Theater an der Wien, Frankfurt Opera and La Scala, Milan. Her repertory includes Aida, Tosca, Bess (Porgy and Bess), Mimì (La bohème), Violetta, Micaëla (Carmen), Liù (Turandot), Marguerite (Faust), Magda (La rondine) and Leonora (Il trovatore). Engagements for 2026/27 include role debuts as Elisabetta di Valois in Don Carlo at Semperoper Dresden and the title role in Floyd’s Susannah at Houston Grand Opera. She also returns to the Metropolitan Opera as Desdemona in Otello and Aida.
