Biography

Georgian mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili studied at the Vano Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatory and made her debut at La Scala, Milan in the title role of Carmen under Daniel Barenboim. She has since performed worldwide at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Bayerische Staatsoper, Vienna State Opera, Paris Opera, Arena di Verona, Greek National Opera, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Massimo Palermo, Deutsche Oper Berlin and Dresden Opera, as well as at the Salzburg and Verona Festivals. Signature roles include Carmen, Amneris (Aida), Azucena (Il trovatore), Eboli (Don Carlo), Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana), Dalila (Samson et Dalila), La Principessa di Bouillon (Adriana Lecouvreur), Charlotte (Werther), Lyubasha (The Tsar’s Bride), Konchakovna (Prince Igor), Marfa (Khovanshchina) and La Cieca (La Gioconda). She has worked with conductors including Riccardo Muti, Antonio Pappano, Zubin Mehta, Gianandrea Noseda, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Daniele Rustioni, James Conlon, Marco Armiliato and Carlo Rizzi. In concert she has appeared with Carnegie Hall, Berlin Philharmonie and Elb Philharmony.
