Biography

Antonello Manacorda was a founding member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and its Concert Master for eight years, before studying conducting under Jorma Panula. He was Artistic Director of the Kammerakademie Potsdam (2010–25) and has worked with ensembles including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Munich Philharmonic, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Tonhalle Orchester Zürich. He made his Royal Opera debut in 2019 conducting La traviata and returned for the 2023/24 season for Damiano Michieletto’s new production of Carmen. Highlights elsewhere have included Die Zauberflöte and the complete Da Ponte Cycle for La Monnaie, Brussels, Alceste, Der Freischütz and Madama Butterfly for Bayerische Staatsoper, The Magic FluteDon Giovanni, and Pelléas et Mélisande for Paris Opera, Die Entführung aus dem SerailLe nozze di FigaroDon Giovanni and Madama Butterfly for Vienna State Opera, Jenůfa for Staatsoper Berlin, Der Freischütz for Semperoper Dresden, Le nozze di Figaro for the Zürich Opera and the Metropolitan Opera. Engagements for 2025/26 include Le nozze di Figaro for Paris Opera, La traviata for the Metropolitan Opera and Zar und Zimmermann for Deutsche Oper Berlin.
