Astrid Klein
Biography
Astrid Klein is a freelance costume designer working in opera and theatre. She holds a Masters from Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, where she studied with Reinhard von der Thannen. As Costume Assistant at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, she has supervised productions directed by Christoph Marthaler, René Pollesch, Simon Stone, and Karin Beier. She has also assisted costume and set designers including Greta Goiris, Alice Babidge, Anna Viebrock, and Johannes Schütz. Her engagements as a costume designer include The Marriage of Figaro for English National Opera (dir. Joe Hill-Gibbins), as well as productions for Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Residenztheater Munich, Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, and Theater Basel. Recent highlights include costume designs for Street Scene (Paris Opera), The Time of our Singing (La Monnaie), and L’incoronazione di Poppea (Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Versailles, Cologne, Rennes, Toulon and Netherlands Reisoper); all directed by Ted Huffman.
