Barnaby Rea trained at the National Opera Studio and Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He has appeared at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Zurich Opera, Teatro Real, Madrid, Maggio Musicale, Florence, Opéra de Lyon, English National Opera, Théâtre du Capitole, Toulouse, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Des Moines Metro Opera, Opéra de Lausanne, Opéra de Nice, Opera Holland Park, Scottish Opera, Opera North and Oper Frankfurt. Roles include Bottom (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), The Four Villains (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Colline (La bohème), Truffaldino (Ariadne auf Naxos), Basilio (The Barber of Seville), Don Iñigo Gomez (L’heure espagnole), Hobson (Peter Grimes), Lodovico (Otello), Baron Zeta (Die lustige Witwe), Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) and Banquo (Macbeth). Concert appearances include the BBC Proms, the Enescu and Edinburgh Festivals and the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Marinsky Hall. He made his Royal Opera debut in the 2022/23 Season as First Apprentice (Wozzeck) and has returned for Hobson (Peter Grimes) and Grenvil (La traviata).
