Biography

Britten Sinfonia is known for its adventurous programming and record of commissioning new music, nurturing new composing talent and inspiring schoolchildren, hospital patients and communities across the East of England. It is an Associate Ensemble at the Barbican, Resident Orchestra at Saffron Hall and resident in Norwich. It performs regularly at the Wigmore Hall and appears at UK festivals including Aldeburgh, Brighton, Norfolk and Norwich and the BBC Proms. It is a BBC Radio 3 Broadcast Partner and has award-winning recordings on several record labels. Collaborations have included with Steve Reich, Thomas Adès, Alison Balsom, Pagrav Dance Company and Anoushka Shankar. 2023/24 Season highlights include Handel’s Messiah in Mozart’s re-orchestration and tours and performances with soprano Elizabeth Watts, tenor Allan Clayton, saxophonist Jess Gillam, harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani, cellist Guy Johnston and New York City Ballet.
