Biography

Born in New York, Charles Castronovo graduated from the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Program. Roles for The Royal Opera have included Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Alfredo (La traviata), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Ruggero (La rondine), Rodolfo (La bohème), Tom Rakewell (The Rake’s Progress) and Don José (Carmen). Recent highlights include Roméo (Roméo et Juliette) at Staatsoper Unter den Linden and at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Rodolfo at Paris Opera, Don José at Teatro Real and Bayerische Staatsoper, Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera) at Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Gabriele Adorno (Simon Boccanegra) at Vienna State Opera, his debut in the title role in Werther at New National Theatre, Tokyo, Macduff (Macbeth) at the Salzburg Festival, Cavaradossi (Tosca) at Bayerische Staatsoper, Don Carlos at Bayerische Staatsoper, Paris Opera and Grand Théâtre de Genève, Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera) at the Metropolitan Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper and Zurich Opera, the title role in Ernani with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Des Grieux (Manon) at Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, Valencia, Vienna State Opera, Maurizio (Adriana Lecouvreur) for Teatro Verdi di Salerno and Gabriele Adorno at Paris Opera and La Scala, Milan.
