German baritone Christian Gerhaher studied with Paul Kuen, Raimund Grumbach and Friedemann Berger at the Academy of Music in Munich. While completing his medical degree, he further refined his vocal training in masterclasses with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Inge Borkh. He currently teaches Lied interpretation at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Munich and regularly gives classes at the Royal Academy of Music in London. For more than 30 years, Gerhaher has collaborated closely with pianist Gerold Huber. Their concert performances and recordings have earned numerous awards. As an opera singer, Gerhaher appears internationally at opera houses and festivals. His signature roles include Wolfram and Wozzeck. He has also served as Artist-in-Residence with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, and London's Wigmore Hall. His previous roles for The Royal Opera include Wozzeck, Wolfram (Tannhäuser), Giorgio Germont (La traviata) and Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro).
