Biography
British tenor Christopher Lemmings studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama before beginning a career that has seen him sing more than fifty individual roles and collaborate with composers including Harrison Birtwistle, Thomas Adès, Oliver Knussen and Nicholas Maw. Recent appearances include Habinnas (Satyricon), Clarence/Tyrrel in Richard III (La Fenice), Death/Parpignol in La bohème (Glyndebourne), Jack O’Brien in Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny (Reggio Emilia, Parma), Sellem in The Rake’s Progress (Rennes, Angers/Nantes), Zweiter Jude in Salome, Cinna in Julius Caesar, Prinz/Marquis in Lulu (Rome), Caliban in The Tempest (RBO), Mayor in Albert Herring (Florence), Goro in Madama Butterfly (Bergen/CBSO), Mouse/Dormouse in Alice In Wonderland (Los Angeles Philharmonic); Survivor from Warsaw (Genova/Parma), Ode to Napoleon Bonaparte (OENM, Berlin), Carmina Burana (Royal Festival Hall), War Requiem (Darmstadt) and Porcus in Jeanne d’Arc au Bûcher (Spoleto). Recent recordings include Thierry Pécou’s Le Monde étincelant (Ensemble Variances) and Gleb in Joe Cutler and Max Hoehn’s Sonata for Broken Fingers (released in Autumn 2025).
