Grammy Award-winning baritone Christopher Maltman has appeared worldwide, including at the Royal Opera House, Salzburg Festival, Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Staatsoper Berlin and La Scala, Milan. Initially associated with the works of Mozart and the title role in Don Giovanni, his repertory now includes Iago (Otello), Wotan (Wagner’s Ring cycle), Jochanaan (Salome), Mandryka (Arabella), the title roles of Verdi’s Rigoletto and Enescu’s Oedipe, Orest (Elektra), Amfortas (Parsifal) and Scarpia (Tosca). Recent engagements include Hans Sachs (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) for Staatsoper unter den Linden, Escamillo (Carmen) for Vienna State Opera and Jochanaan for Staatsoper Hamburg. Previous roles for The Royal Opera include Wotan (Das Rheingold, Die Walküre), Iago, Leporello and Don Giovanni, Don Carlo di Vargas (La forza del destino), Count di Luna (Il trovatore), Lescaut (Manon Lescaut), Papageno (The Magic Flute), Ramiro (L’heure espagnole) and Malatesta (Don Pasquale). Engagements for 2025/26 include the title role of Die fliegende Holländer (Bayerische Staatsoper tour to Shanghai and Tiroler Festspiele Erl), Narrator in A Survivor from Warsaw (Milan), Don Pizarro in Fidelio and Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte (Vienna) and Scarpia (Staatsoper unter den Linden and Vienna).
