Daniel Oren was born in Tel Aviv and grew up studying piano, cello, voice and conducting. He was the winner of the Herbert Von Karajan International Competition in Berlin (1975). Since his 1978 professional debut at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, he has performed at theaters worldwide. Formerly music director at Rome Opera House, Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Teatro Carlo Felice, Genoa, Teatro di San Carlo, Naples and Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, he now serves as the Artistic Director of Teatro Municipale Giuseppe Verdi in Salerno. He has been a guest at the Metropolitan Opera, Paris Opera, Vienna State Opera, Teatro Real, Madrid and La Scala, Milan, among others, and has conducted orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic and the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Recent highlights include I lombardi alla prima crociata in Madrid, Tosca in Rome and Otello and Rigoletto in Trieste. Engagements for 2025/26 include Tosca in Vienna, La Gioconda in Barcelona and Fedora in Madrid.
