Biography
Donald Maxwell was Director of the National Opera Studio from 2001–08. He has sung with all the leading British opera companies, for La Scala, Milan, the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Vienna State Opera and Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires. His repertory has included Falstaff, Don Pasquale, Wozzeck, Iago, Nick Shadow, Jack Rance, Golaud, Scarpia, Bottom, Don Alfonso, Šiškov, Balstrode, Dulcamara, Fra Melitone and Sacristan. For the Royal Opera, his roles include Herald (Lohengrin), Kothner (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Alidoro, Donner, Gunther, Faninal, Krušina (The Bartered Bride), Dr Bartolo (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Antonio (Le nozze di Figaro), Lockit (The Beggar’s Opera), Sacristan (Tosca), Hortensius (La Fille du régiment) and Alcindoro (La bohème). 2025/26 Season highlights include Benoît and Alcindoro (Metropolitan Opera, and a reprisal of his role as Hortensius (La Fille du régiment) for The Royal Opera.
