Biography

Elgan Llŷr Thomas is a former Harewood Artist at English National Opera and Emerging Artist at Scottish Opera. He made his debut with The Royal Opera as First Noble (Lohengrin). Elsewhere, he has sung Dr Richardson in Breaking the Waves (Opéra-Comique), Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (SO), and Cassio in Otello and Steuermann in Der fliegende Holländer (Grange Park Opera). Recordings include Orbin in Elgar’s Caractacus (Hyperion) and his debut song recital Unveiled with Iain Burnside and Craig Ogden (Delphian). Recent engagements include François in A Quiet Place (ROH), Prunier in La rondine (Opera North), Tom Rakewell in The Rake’s Progress (Swedish Chamber Orchestra), Unclean Beasts (Music Theatre Wales), Joe O’Brien in Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (English National Opera), Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (Boston Symphony Orchestra), Haydn’s Nelson Mass (Singapore Symphony Orchestra) and Mahler’s Das klagende Lied (Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra).
