Biography

French-Canadian baritone Étienne Dupuis was born in Montreal. His roles for Deutsche Oper Berlin include Hérode (Hérodiade), Posa, Giorgio Germont, Zurga (Les Pêcheurs de perles), Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Renato (Un ballo in maschera) and Eugene Onegin. Recent engagements include Zurga at Zurich Opera, Eugene Onegin, Marcello, Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Valentin at Vienna State Opera, Escamillo, Count di Luna, Paolo (Simon Boccanegra), Sancho Panza (Don Quichotte) and Don Giovanni at Paris Opera, Karl Gustav (La Reine-garçon) at Opéra de Montréal, Rodrigue (Don Carlos) at the Metropolitan Opera and Don Giovanni in San Francisco. Engagement for 2024/25 include Macbeth in Washington, Rodrigue (Don Carlos) and Don Giovanni in Vienna and Rigoletto in Berlin. He was made a Chevalier de l’ordre des arts et des lettres in 2021. His previous roles for The Royal Opera include Marcello (La bohème) and Don Carlo di Vargas (La forza del destino).
