Biography
British répétiteur and conductor Genevieve Ellis is Assistant Chorus Master of the Royal Opera Chorus. Since her appointment in 2015 she has been Chorus Master for Kaija Saariaho’s Innocence (UK premiere), Le nozze di Figaro, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Don Giovanni, Tosca, Così fan tutte, La traviata and Carmen and has assisted Chorus Director William Spaulding on over 70 titles. Ellis was born in London and studied at Selwyn College, Cambridge and the RAM, before training in opera coaching at Flanders Opera Studio. During her time there she worked for Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, the Opéra Royal de Wallonie and Collegium Vocale Ghent. She worked for English National Opera as a trainee répétiteur and became Assistant Chorus Master there in 2012. She worked on over 30 productions with the ENO chorus and was Chorus Master for La traviata
in 2014. She has been Guest Chorus Master at the Opéra de Lyon (War Requiem, 2017) and with the BBC Singers (Prisoner of the State, January 2020). She conducts Apollo Voices in Aigul Akhmetshina’s debut CD Aigul for Decca, and two CDs of choral music by Barbara Harbach for MSR Classics.
