George Gershwin
Biography
George Gershwin was an American composer of the 20th century, whose work spanned the genres of popular music, jazz and classical music. Famous orchestral compositions include Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris. He is also known for the songs Summertime (from the opera Porgy and Bess) and I Got Rhythm, among others.
His compositions have been used as ballet scores for George Balanchine’s Who Cares?, Mark Morris’ Three Preludes, Jerome Robbin’s Gershwin Piano Concerto and Christopher Wheeldon’s An American in Paris.
