Biography

Grammy Award-winning Canadian bass-baritone Gerald Finley has performed at opera houses and concert venues worldwide and has an extensive discography. His repertory spans Mozart, Wagner and Verdi as well as roles including Bluebeard and Guillaume Tell. Recent highlights include a new recording of Der fliegende Holländer, the title role in Macbeth and Amfortas (Parsifal) for Vienna State Opera and Bayerische Staatsoper, Scarpia (Tosca) in Berlin, Antony (Antony and Cleopatra) for the Metropolitan Opera, Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte) for La Scala, Milan, Golaud (Pelléas et Mélisande) for Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) in Munich and Bluebeard’s Castle at the Verbier Festival. His Royal Opera appearances include creating the role of Helge in the world premiere of Festen, Scarpia, Don Alfonso and Wolfram (Tannhäuser). Engagements for 2026/27 include Don Alfonso (The Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera), Bluebeard (Royal Concertgebouw), Amfortas (Tiroler Festspiele Erl), Scarpia (Bayerische Staatsoper) and concerts with the Philharmonia, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Munich Philharmonic.
