Biography

Argentinean baritone Germán Enrique Alcántara is a graduate of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme, and made his debut with The Royal Opera in the 2018/19 Season as Dancaïro in Carmen. He has since returned for many productions including Marullo in Rigoletto and Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro. Additional roles include Marcello in La bohème, the title role of Don Giovanni, Hermann and Schlemil in Les contes d’Hoffmann at Opéra de Metz and Count Almaviva in Klagenfurt. Alcántara’s concert repertory includes Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in C minor, Schubert’s Mass in G, Handel’s Messiah and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle (Philharmonie de Paris). Awards include First Prize at the International Vocal Competition of The Elena Obraztsova Foundation ‘José Carreras Grand Prix’ in Moscow (2021) and Third Prize and the Audience Prize at the Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition in Barcelona (2021).
