Biography
RMIT joint PhD graduates Ruth Gibson and Bruno Martelli operate at the edge of body, technology and disappearance – a hybrid practice that takes the moving body as its starting point and camouflage as a lens, installations often alter spatial perception and question where control lies. An exploration of how humans experience and understand complex systems when they are inside rather than observing from outside. Their work has been exhibited at the Barbican, Detroit Institute of Arts, Centro de Arte Moderna Lisbon, Towner Eastbourne, Tanzhaus NRW, Düsseldorf, Atatürk Cultural Center Istanbul, DeDoelen Rotterdam, Avignon Festival, the 79th Venice International Film Festival (La Biennale di Venezia) and the 66th BFI London Film Festival Expanded. They are BAFTA-nominated, Henry Moore Foundation commissioned, NESTA awarded and Lumen Gold Prize winners. Gibson is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Dance Research, Coventry University. The artists live and work in London.
