Biography

Born in Lithuania, Giedrė Šlekytė studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Graz, the Academy of Music and Theatre, Leipzig and the Zurich University of Arts. From 2016 to 2018, she was Principal Conductor of Stadttheater Klagenfurt. Elsewhere she has appeared with Wiener Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper, Zurich Opera, Staatsoper Berlin, Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre and Semperoper Dresden, as well as with Wiener Symphoniker, Münchner Philharmoniker, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, NHK Tokyo, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Netherlands Philharmonic and Swedish Radio. She made her debut with The Royal Opera in the 2024/25 Season with Hansel and Gretel. Engagements for 2025/26 include a debut with the L.A. Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, as well as with Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona. She also returns to Zurich Opera for Hansel and Gretel.
