Biography

Born in Lecco, Italy, tenor Giovanni Sala studied at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Como with Fiorenza Cedolins and later at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan, with Luciana d’Intino and Marcelo Álvarez. He made his professional debut at the Teatro Sociale di Como, where he performed in Don Giovanni, directed by Graham Vick, and L’elisir d’amore. Sala’s awards include Second Prize in the Queen Sonja Competition (2017) and the AsLiCo Competition (2014). Recent engagements include Messa da Requiem with the Philadelphia Orchestra, La traviata at Maggio Musicale, Florence, Die Zauberflöte, Macbeth and Don Giovanni at Bayerische Staatsoper, La Clemenza di Tito at Opéra de Monte-Carlo, L’Opera Seria by F.L.Gassmann at La Scala, Milan and Rigoletto at San Francisco Opera. Engagements for 2025/26 include Così fan tutte in Milan and Don Giovanni in Tokyo.
