Biography

Hubert Francis was born in Australia and is an alumnus of the RNCM and The Royal Opera’s Young Artists Programme. He appears on stage and in concert internationally in Amsterdam, London, Los Angeles, New York, Palermo, Paris, San Francisco, Sydney and Tel Aviv, among others. Roles include Aegist (Elektra), Chairman Mao (Nixon in China), Captain and Drum Major (Wozzeck), Herod (Salome) and Shuisky (Boris Godunov). In over 200 Royal Opera appearances, his roles have included Male Chorus (The Rape of Lucretia), Lucas (The Exterminating Angel), Laïos (Oedipe) and Hunchback Brother (Die Frau ohne Schatten). Recent highlights include Herod at The Bergen International Festival with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Count Albert (The Dead City) with English National Opera and Loge (Das Rheingold) for Opera Australia’s new Ring cycle. Future engagements include the dual roles of Basilio and Curzio (The Marriage of Figaro) at ENO.
