Igor Golovatenko

Russian baritone Igor Golovatenko made his debut with The Royal Opera in the 2018/19 Season as Giorgio Germont (La traviata) and has since sung Enrico Ashton (Lucia di Lammermoor). He studied at the Moscow Academy of the Choral Arts and won First Prize in St Petersburg’s Three Centuries of Classical Romance Competition and Second Prize in Dresden’s Opera Competition. He is a former soloist with Moscow’s Novaya Opera and has appeared regularly at the Bolshoi, where roles have included Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Giorgio Germont, Count di Luna (Il trovatore), Renato (Un ballo in maschera), Rodrigo, Marquis of Posa (Don Carlo), Andrey Shchelkalov (Boris Godunov), Eugene Onegin, Prince Yeletsky (The Queen of Spades), Robert (Iolanta), Lescaut (Manon Lescaut) and Marcello (La bohème). Appearences elsewhere include Enrico Ashton for Semperoper Dresden, Prince Yeletsky for the Salzburg Festival, Count di Luna for Bayerische Staatsoper, Giorgio Germont for Glyndebourne Festival and Los Angeles Opera and Eugene Onegin for the Savonlinna and Aix-en-Provence festivals. Concert appearances include Rachmaninoff’s Spring Cantata with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican and Delius’ Mass of Life with the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra.
