Ilona Karas born in the Czech Republic and studied costume design at CSSD in London. Karas's costume design work includes L'elisird'amore (Norwegian Opera), The Marriage of Figaro (Nevill Holt Opera), Carmen (Grange Festival) Rigoletto (Nevill Holt Opera), My Fair Lady (Staatstheatre Karlsruhe), Alcina (Staatstheatre Cottbus), Les Misérables and West Side Story (Pimlico Opera) and Until Now and The Bridge (Mimbre). She has worked as an assistant costume designer to Annemarie Woods for Madama Butterfly (Zürich Opera), to Antony McDonald on The Marriage of Figaro (Teatro alla Scala, Milan), assisted and supervised Powder Her Face (NI Opera), La finta giardiniera (Glyndebourne) Lohengrin (WNO, Warsaw National Opera), L'enfant et les sortilèges (Bolshoi), The Importance of Being Earnest (NI Opera) and TheQueen of Spades (Grange Park Opera).
