Biography
Jakub Hrůša is Music Director of The Royal Opera, Chief Conductor of the Bamberg Symphony and Chief Conductor and Music Director Designate of the Czech Philharmonic. He is Musical America’s Conductor of the Year 2026, and ICMA’s 2026 Artist of the Year. He is a regular guest with orchestras worldwide, including the Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Philharmonia Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, Staatskapelle Berlin, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, NHK Symphony, Chicago Symphony, The Cleveland Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He has led opera productions for The Royal Opera (Carmen, Lohengrin, Jenůfa, Tosca, The Makropulos Case), Vienna State Opera, Salzburg Festival with the Vienna Philharmonic, Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Glyndebourne Festival. His numerous accolades include a Gramophone Award for his recording of Kát’a Kabanová with the Vienna Philharmonic at Salzburg Festival, the ICMA Prize for both Symphonic Opera and Opera Video, the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, the Bavarian Order of Merit, the Bavarian Culture Prize, the Sir Charles Mackerras Prize, and the Antonín Dvořák Prize. He was the 2023 Opus Klassik Conductor of the Year, and in 2025 he was awarded the Medal of Merit in the field of Arts by the President of the Czech Republic.
