Biography
John Graham-Hall studied at King’s College‚ Cambridge and the Royal College of Music. Highlights include the Witch of Endor in Saul (Glyndebourne, Théâtre du Châtelet)‚ Aron in Moses und Aron (Paris Opera, Teatro Real, Madrid)‚ Aschenbach in Death in Venice (Franco Abbiati prize for Best Male Singer), the title role in Peter Grimes (La Scala‚ Milan)‚ Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia)‚ Valzacchi in Der Rosenkavalier and Triquet in Eugene Onegin (Metropolitan Opera)‚ Peter Grimes (Opéra de Nice, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos), Ashenbach (English National Opera and on DVD)‚ Dr Caius in Falstaff (La Monnaie, Brussels), Porter/Hécat in Macbeth Underworld (Opéra-Comique), Sellem in The Rake's Progress and Dr Blind in Die Fledermaus (The Grange Festival), Kedril in From The House of The Dead (Brussels, Opéra National de Lyon)‚ Snout in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Mr Taupe in Capriccio (Madrid) and Aufidio in Lucio Silla (Brussels, Staatsoper Stuttgart). His previous roles for The Royal Opera include the title role in Albert Herring‚ Tanzmeister (Ariadne auf Naxos)‚ Basilio, Monostatos (The Magic Flute), Shuisky (Boris Godunov) and Kedril.
