Biography

Lebanese-Canadian soprano Joyce El-Khoury’s recent highlights include role debuts as Norma (Herodes Atticus Theatre, Athens), Médée (Opéra-Comique), Manon Lescaut (Bayerische Staatsoper) and Carmen (Oper im Steinbruch). She has worked with conductors including Mark Elder, Carlo Rizzi, Riccardo Muti and Lorin Maazel, and has appeared at the Royal Opera House, Teatro Real, Madrid, Glyndebourne Festival, Dutch National Opera, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Canadian Opera Company and Dallas Opera. In concert she has appeared with the London, Chicago and Houston Symphonies, Orchestre de Paris, Barcelona Symphony, Münchner Philharmoniker, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, in repertory including Strauss’ Vier letzte Lieder, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Verdi’s Requiem and Rossini’s Stabat Mater. Her award-winning discography includes Donizetti’s L’Ange de Nisida, Les Martyrs and Belisario (Opera Rara) and her solo album Écho (Opera Rara) received a Juno nomination. In 2022 she was honored as Dallas Opera’s Maria Callas Debut Artist of the Year. She  also performs Lebanese art song in recitals worldwide, and supports young singers through her teaching initiative Lessons for Lebanon.
