Julia Jones
Biography
Born in England, she was Chief Conductor of Opera Basel (1998–2002) and of the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Lisbon (2008–11) and General Music Director of the Sinfonieorchester and Oper Wuppertal (2016-2021). Highlights include Rigoletto, Così fan tutte, Carmen and Die Zauberflöte (The Royal Opera), Aida (Royal Swedish Opera), La traviata (Norwegian National Opera), Falstaff and Un ballo in maschera (Frankfurt Opera), Otello (Berlin State Opera, Hamburg, Bordeaux), Macbeth (Maggio Musicale, Florence), Luisa Miller (Oper Wuppertal), Rigoletto (Bregenz Festival), Idomeneo and Don Giovanni (Royal Danish Opera), Ernani (Vlaamse Opera) and Le nozze di Figaro (Prague National Theatre). She has also conducted for the Vienna and Bavarian State Operas, the opera houses of Barcelona, Washington, Seattle and Sydney, for orchestras worldwide and at the Salzburg Festival. 2024/25 Season engagements include Aida and Alcina at Oper Frankfurt and Otello at Den Norske Opera.
