Biography
Laurence Cummings’ conducting career has taken him across Europe to Houses including Opernhaus Zurich, Oper Frankfurt, Dutch National Opera, Theater an der Wien, Theater Basel, Halle Handel Festival, Gothenburg Opera, Théâtre du Châtelet Paris and Opéra de Lyon, as well as to English National Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Garsington Opera and Opera North. He has worked with directors including Barrie Koskie, David McVicar, Christoph Marthaler, Deborah Warner, Adele Thomas, Claus Guth, Oliver Mears, Sebastian Baumgarten, John Caird, Graham Vick and Peter Sellars. On the concert platform he works with both period and modern instrument orchestras worldwide, including Zurich Chamber Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Netherlands Bach Society, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Tonnkunstler Orchester Graffeneg, St Paul Chamber Orchestra Minneapolis, St Louis Symphony, Handel and Haydn Society Boston and many of the UK orchestras. He has been Music Director of Academy of Ancient Music since 2021. Previously for The Royal Opera: Jephtha and Berenice.
