Liam Bonthrone
Biography
Scottish tenor Liam Bonthrone was a member of the Bayerische Staatsoper Opernstudio (2022–24), where roles included Pedrillo (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Remendado (Carmen), Brighella (Ariadne auf Naxos), Narrator (Orff’s Der Mond), Rustighello (Lucrezia Borgia), Ein Junger Seemann (Tristan und Isolde), Gran Sacerdote (Idomeneo), Eurimaco/Pisandro (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria), Un Lampionaio (Manon Lescaut) and Player 2 (Dean’s Hamlet). Recent debuts include with Potsdam Winteroper as Rinaldo (Armida), Royal Danish Opera as Count Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks as Gran Sacerdote, the Tiroler Festspiele Erl as Der Waldgeist (Schneeflöckchen) and the Glyndebourne Festival as First Grail Knight in a new production of Parsifal and Abner/Doeg/High Priest in Kosky’s production of Saul. Engagements for 2025/26 include Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola) for GöteborgsOperan, Jonathan (Saul) for Oper Köln and a return to Glyndebourne for Brighella (Ariadne auf Naxos). He makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2025/26 Season in Turandot.
