Biography

Olivier Award-winning conductor Mark Wigglesworth is Chief Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and former Associate Conductor of the BBC Symphony, Principal Guest Conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony and Music Director of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and English National Opera. He made his Royal Opera debut in 2002 and has returned for Die Meistersinger von NürnbergRise and Fall of the City of MahagonnyFrom the House of the Dead and La clemenza di Tito. For ENO he has conducted Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Così fan tutte, Falstaff, Káťa Kabanová, Parsifal, The Force of Destiny, The Magic Flute, Jenůfa, Don Giovanni and Lulu. Appearances elsewhere include with the Metropolitan Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Paris Opera and Vienna State Opera. Concert engagements include performances with the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw, LSO, Boston SO, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago SO, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra and Tokyo SymphonyHe has written articles for The Guardian, The Independent, The Stage and The Evening Standard and published his book, The Silent Musician, on Faber and Faber in 2018.
