Biography

Born in Brighton, he studied at the Curtis Institute. He was a member of The Royal Opera’s Young Artists Programme (2003–5) and has returned for Baron Ochs (Der Rosenkavalier), Raimondo Bidebent (Lucia di Lammermoor), Giorgio Talbot (Maria Stuarda), Timur (Turandot), Sarastro (The Magic Flute), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Masetto (Don Giovanni), Harašta (The Cunning Little Vixen), Colline (La bohème) and Bottom (A Midsummer Night’s Dream). Recent appearances elsewhere include Fasolt (Das Rheingold) for Bayerische Staatsoper, Rocco (Fidelio) for Opéra National de Bordeaux, Ashby (La fanciulla del West), Oroveso (Norma), Frère Laurent (Roméo et Juliette), Talbot, Bottom and Colline for the Metropolitan Opera, Bottom, Collatinus (The Rape of Lucretia) for Glyndebourne, and Grand Inquisitor (Don Carlo) for Deutsche Oper Berlin. He runs Folkestone on Song, an organisation that brings song and singing to Folkestone and East Kent via an international song festival, bursary award for emerging artists and singing academy. Engagements for 2025/26 include Sarastro for the Metropolitan Opera, Peneios (Daphne) for Seattle Opera and Philip II (Don Carlo) for Grange Park Opera.
