Biography
Estonian mezzo-soprano Monika-Evelin Liiv was a Jette Parker Young Artist at the Royal Opera House from 2007–09. Her Royal Opera roles have included Azucena (Il trovatore), Grimgerde (Die Walküre), Second Lady (The Magic Flute), Mercédès (Carmen), Second Maid (Elektra) and Marthe (Faust). In recent years, her roles in international Houses have included Azucena, Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana), Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera), Eboli (Don Carlo), Judith (Bluebeard’s Castle) and Federica (Luisa Miller in concert). She has also appeared as the Third Maid (Elektra) at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and La Badessa (Suor Angelica) at the Edinburgh Festival and BBC Proms with the London Symphony Orchestra. Her awards include the Estonian Theatre Award for outstanding performance and the Estonian Cultural Endowment Award. Upcoming engagements for 2026/2027 include Erda (Das Rheingold) at Saaremaa Opera Days and covering Amneris (Aida) at the Metropolitan Opera.
