Biography

Neal Cooper was born in South London and studied German literature at Durham University and singing at the Paris Conservatoire. Notable past engagements include Melot (Tristan und Isolde) for The Royal Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, the Kennedy Center, Teatro Real, Madrid, Paris Opera (Bastille) and Müpa Budapest, cover Erik (Der fliegende Holländer) and the title roles in Tannhäuser and Tristan and Isolde for the Metropolitan Opera, Eisslinger (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) for La Scala, Tristan for Longborough Festival Opera, Melbourne Opera, Opera Vlaanderen Antwerp and Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, Tannhäuser for Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken and Longborough Festival Opera, Gabriele Adorno (Simon Boccanegra) for English National Opera and Nick (La fanciulla del West) and Borsa (Rigoletto) for Opera Holland Park. Concert work has included appearances at the BBC Proms, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Berliner Philharmoniker, Baden-Baden and Tonhalle Düsseldorf. Engagements for 2025/26 include Erik for Opera Holland Park.
