Biography

Born in Augsburg, he is based in Berlin. He studied at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin, graduating in 2008. As an artist, he has exhibited his paintings and installations in leading galleries and museums including the Accademia Brera, Milan, the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, and galleries in Berlin, Milan, Sydney, Cologne and Munich. In 2017 the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt hosted his solo show [dis]connect and in 2023 the Städel Museum in Frankfurt hosted his solo exhibition Phantominseln (Phantom Islands). In 2018 he created the exhibition design for Du bist Faust based on Goethe’s drama at the Kunsthalle in Munich. His opera set designs include Les Vêpres siciliennes (The Royal Opera), Eugene Onegin and The Queen of Spades (Dutch National Opera, the latter also costumes), Pelléas et Mélisande (Glyndebourne, also costumes), Carmen (Bern, also costumes), Die Passagierin and Macbeth (Karlsruhe, also costumes), Ariadne auf Naxos (Lucerne, also costumes) and Der fliegende Holländer (Helsinki). In 2023 he designed the sets for Oliver Mears’ production of La Gioconda at the Easter Festival Salzburg.
