Mezzo-soprano

Biography

British mezzo-soprano Polly Leech studied at Durham University, the Royal College of Music and the National Opera Studio. She regularly performs at La Monnaie, Dutch National Opera, Carlo Felice Genoa and Nederlandse Reisopera, and with UK companies including Garsington and Opera North. Her current repertory includes Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos) Orfeo (Orfeo ed Euridice), Fox (The Cunning Little Vixen), Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Mrs Grose (The Turn of the Screw), Angelina and Tisbe (La Cenerentola), Waltraute (Die Walküre), Hippolyta and Hermia (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), La Ciesca (Gianni Schicchi) and Handel roles such as Ariodante, Irene (Theodora) and Matilda (Lotario). Polly also performs widely in concert, with recent performances including Verdi’s Requiem (Gabrieli Consort), Berlioz’s Les nuits d’été and Elgar’s Sea Pictures (BBC National Orchestra of Wales), and Ravel’s Shéhérazade (Concertgebouworkest). In the 2025/26 Royal Opera Season she sings the title role of Giustino in the Linbury Theatre.
