Biography

Rebecca Fiebrink is a Professor of Creative Computing at the UAL Creative Computing Institute, where works on a variety of projects developing technologies that enable new forms of human expression, creativity, and embodied interaction. Much of her current research combines techniques from human-computer interaction, machine learning, and signal processing to allow people to apply machine learning more effectively to new problems, such as the design of new digital musical instruments and gestural interfaces for gaming and accessibility. She is the creator of the world’s first online course about machine learning for creative practice, titled “Machine Learning for Artists and Musicians,” which launched in 2016 on the Kadenze platform, and she has authored numerous open-source software tools for using machine learning in creative projects. Fiebrink is also a musician, whose work has included playing laptop at Carnegie Hall, serving as principal flutist in the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and performing in the computer science rock band "The Parody Bits.” She holds a PhD in Computer Science from Princeton University.
