Biography

Riccardo Frizza is Musical Director and Artistic Director of the Bergamo Donizetti Opera Festival and Chief Conductor of the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir. Engagements with the DO include Il castello di Kenilworth, Lucrezia Borgia, Marin Faliero, Belisario, L’Elisir d’amore, La Favorite, Il diluvio universale and Roberto Devereux. Recent highlights include I puritani (Dresdner Philharmonie), Un ballo in maschera (Liceu), Le villi (Teatro Regio, Turin), Maria Stuarda (Teatro di San Carlo), Attila (Verdi Festival) and Werther (Teatro Comunale, Bologna), as well as symphonic concerts in Madrid, Vienna, the Basque Country and on tour across the UK. He was appointed Cavaliere della Repubblica Italiana in 2024 by the Italian president and conducted the Teatro di San Carlo Orchestra in an Italian Republic Day concert, broadcast on Rai 1. Engagements for 2025/26 include La fanciulla del West and Un ballo in maschera (Bologna), La Favorite (ABAO Bilbao Opera), Roberto Devereux, Medea and Partenope (Teatro di San Carlo), La Sonnambula (Metropolitan Opera), Caterina Cornaro (Donizetti Opera) and Pagliacci and Cavalleria rusticana (Teatro del Maggio).
