Biography

In a career spanning nearly forty years, French-Sicilian tenor Alagna has sung more than sixty roles. For The Royal Opera he has sung Calaf, Manrico, Nemorino, Rodolfo, Roméo, Don Carlos, Cavaradossi, Ruggero (La Rondine), Faust, Don José, Radamès and Andrea Chénier, appearing in more than 100 performances with the Company. Other highlights include Rodolfo, Samson, Don José (Metropolitan Opera), Turiddu and Canio (Deutsche Oper Berlin, Liceu, Barcelona), Alfredo, Manrico, Don Carlo, Otello (Paris), Calaf, Samson (Vienna), and roles in lesser-known works including Rodrigue in Le Cid and Lancelot in Le Roi Arthus (Paris), the title roles of Vasco da Gama (Berlin) and Cyrano de Bergerac (Metropolitan Opera). His eclectic discography includes complete operas, duets, anthologies and discs of popular songs. Among his most recent releases are Puccini in Love (with Aleksandra Kurzak), The Singer, Caruso 1873 and Pärt’s Stabat Mater. He has also appeared on many DVDs, including a film of Tosca.
