Biography
English tenor Ru Charlesworth made their Royal Opera debut in the 2016/17 Season as Marzio (Mitridate, re di Ponto), returning as Oronte (Alcina) in 2022. Opera appearances include Lurcanio (Ariodante), Oronte (Alcina), and Sellem (The Rake’s Progress) for Opéra national de Paris, Emilio (Partenope) and Lord Darnley (Mary, Queen of Scots) for English National Opera, Flute (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) for Teatro Real, The Witch of Endor (Saul) and Don Basilio (Le nozze di Figaro) for Glyndebourne, Bob Boles (Peter Grimes) for Theater an der Wien, Tanzmeister (Ariadne auf Naxos), Lysander (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Damon (Acis and Galatea) for Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Prinz (The Love for Three Oranges), Jonathan (Saul) and the tenor soloist in Damiano Michieletto’s staged Messiah for Komische Oper Berlin, Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) and Narraboth (Salome) for Staatsoper Hannover. 2026/27 Season highlights include a return to Glyndebourne and a house debut at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
