Sean Panikkar’s recent engagements include Loge (Das Rheingold) at the Royal Opera House and Bayerische Staatsoper, the title role in Œdipus Rex at Dutch National Opera, Leonard Woolf in Kevin Puts and Greg Pierce’s The Hours at the Metropolitan Opera and Alexei (The Gambler) at the Salzburg Festival. Other highlights include the title role in Peter Grimes at Opéra National de Lyon, Gandhi in Philip Glass’ Satyagraha at English National Opera and Los Angeles Opera, The Bridegroom in Kaija Saariaho’s Innocence at The Adelaide Festival, Luigi Nono’s Intolleranza 1960 and Dionysus (Henze’s The Bassarids) at Komische Oper Berlin and the Salzburg Festival, Tambourmajor (Wozzeck) at Vienna State Opera, Œdipus Rex with the San Francisco Symphony and Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. Engagements for 2025/26 include a new production of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk at Komische Oper Berlin and a new production of The Bartered Bride at Teatro Real, Madrid.
