Biography

Stefano Montanari is the Principal Conductor of the Orchestra del Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. He is a regular guest at the Royal Opera House, where he has conducted Rigoletto, Così fan tutte and most recently, Ariodante, as well as Bayerische Staatsoper, Lyon Opera, Dutch National Opera, Bolshoi Theatre, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Moscow, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Warsaw Philharmonic, La Fenice, Venice, Opera di Roma, Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, Arena di Verona, Maggio Musicale, Florence, Teatro Regio, Turin and the Ravenna, Bergamo,  Donizetti and Edinburgh festivals. Recent highlights include Giulio Cesare in Bari, Maria Stuarda in Hamburg, Alcina in Munich, Les Brigands in Paris, Roméo et Juliette in Berlin, La Fille du régiment in Munich, Guillaume Tell in Liège and Otello in Stuttgart. Engagements for 2026/27 include Le nozze di Figaro for Teatro Real, Madrid, a new production of Il barbiere di Siviglia for Teatro Petruzzelli, Bari, a new production of La clemenza di Tito for Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, Valencia, Don Giovanni and Otello for Deutsche Oper Berlin and La Cenerentola for Bayerische Staatsoper.
