Biography

Stefano Montanari is the Principal Conductor of the Orchestra del Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. He is a regular guest at the Royal Opera House, Bayerische Staatsoper, Lyon Opera, De Nationale Opera, Amsterdam, Bolshoi Theatre and Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Moscow, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Edinburgh Festival, Warsaw Philharmonic, La Fenice, Venice, Opera di Roma, Teatro San Carlo, Naples, Donizetti Festival, Bergamo, Arena di Verona, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Regio, Turin, and the Ravenna Festival. 2024/25 highlights included Les Brigands in Paris, Roméo et Juliette in Berlin, La Fille du régiment in Munich, Guillaume Tell in Liège, and Otello in Stuttgart. 2025/26 highlights include Giulio Cesare in Bari and Berlin, Maria Stuarda in Hamburg and Alcina in Munich. Previously for The Royal Opera: Rigoletto and Così fan tutte. In the 2025/26 Royal Opera Season he conducts Ariodante.
