Uzma Hameed is a British writer, director and dramaturg. A frequent collaborator of McGregor’s, she was Dramaturg for The Royal Ballet on The Dante Project (South Bank Sky Arts Award), Woolf Works (Olivier Award), Obsidian Tear and Multiverse, and on Company Wayne McGregor’s Autobiography and Universe: A Dark Crystal Odyssey. She was Dramaturg on MADDADDAM, inspired by Margaret Atwood’s trilogy, for National Ballet of Canada and on AfteRite-LORE for La Scala (Danza&Danza Award). Other dramaturgy credits include Northern Ballet’s Victoria (South Bank Sky Arts Award) and The Seven Deadly Sins/MahagonnySongspiel for The Royal Opera. UNDYING, a two-book novel co-authored with sister Ambreen Hameed, was published in 2021 (Bath Novel Award longlist). Hameed graduated from Cambridge University with a First in Modern and Medieval Languages, and founded The Big Picture Company, an innovative theatre company combining new writing with choreography and film. Credits included writing and directing A Dark River, Taj andProphetess. As Associate Director at Derby Playhouse, her credits included Shirley Valentine, Dracula, Frankenstein and Schiller’s Mary Stuart. She has directed for Kali Theatre, led projects at the National Theatre Studio and given talks and workshops for organisations including The Royal College of Art, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Edinburgh International Festival and Playwrights Studio Scotland.
